On 7th April, World Health Day, the Hindi film Meroon was released — a powerful and emotional story portraying the real-life struggles of a young tribal widow and the way society perceives her.
More than just a film, Meroon serves as a mirror to society, highlighting how women who are left alone are often judged, sidelined, and burdened by tradition. It shines a light on social norms, mental health, and the strength of a woman’s resilience.
This impactful story was celebrated at Gunjan Theatre in Vapi, where the World Health Day observance took place with the entire cast of Meroon present. The event saw the presence of several distinguished guests including Mr. Shankar Warli, former Member of Legislative Assembly; Mr. Dilen Soni, producer of the film; Dr. Nehaal Mayur, International Development Expert; Mr. Nitin Patil and Mr. Anil Shah from the Western Railway Passenger Committee; and Mr. Prakash Nadge from the Global Futures Network, USA.
With hundreds of viewers in attendance, this event used the power of cinema and lived reality to raise awareness — reminding us that health is not just about the body, but also the mind, the soul, and the society we live in.
Meroon urges us to recognize the truth and act for change — because if we want a fair and equal society, we must begin by listening to the voices we often ignore.
