March 28, 2019, Mumbai: The city saw the launch of hyper-local connectivity app titled ‘Bhonga’. The app is an initiative by Linkus Infratech Private Limited.
The app in the beta stage was tested extensively by more than 2000+ users in Mumbai and Thane so that the system is totally bug-free before the commercial launch. Encouraging results paved the way for a full-fledged launch. “The app is designed keeping in mind the connect beyond family and friends. It is designed to connect people within the same locality without worrying about whether they know each other or not. "The idea behind the app is a very simple one – that of a megaphone or loudspeaker,” said Radhika Agarwal, Director, Linkus Infratech.
We tried to understand the areas a megaphone can be of use and realized the potential and the result was "Bhonga". Incidentally, Megaphone was invented by Thomas Edison, the same visionary who invented the bulb. The light bulb brought in a revolution when it was used and the same can be done with a digital megaphone which will empower every smartphone user.
Bhonga is a simple app which once downloaded allows the user send a message to all those who have this app in the 1 km radius, whether they know each other or not exactly the way a loudspeaker allows you to reach out to people around. The user can use the app to reach out to everyone around for posting messages which may be an emergency, an offer, a query or even an opinion or information which he believes may be of help to people around him. "The app dynamically changes its location based upon the phone's geography and hence it connects the user with others in whatever area he is present thus keeping him well connected where ever he goes" emphasis Radhika.
During the beta test we saw users asking for extra chairs and mattresses from people in the neighbourhood for a wedding in the house, a user looking for a language teacher in the neighbourhood, somebody willing to sell household goods, announcement of a medical camp in the society, home tuition inquires, mom and pop stores announcing offers, etc. Bhonga offered a completely new way of reach in the area.
One can also put in a voice note and a photo to his post. Security and anonymity are at the heart of the app, the user’s identity is not disclosed but only the location coordinates from where the post was generated gets shared. This also enables users to fearlessly express their opinions. A locality or neighbourhood reach also is at times much critical than the reach to just the family and friends available over other personal messaging and social media platforms.
Bhonga is also in the process of working with several non-profit partners like blood-banks, ambulance services, etc. to make the app a lot more useful. The app is available for both Android and iPhone. The users are offered support to enable them to best use the app. “

4th edition of Aditya Birla Health Insurance Ride to Mpower aims to #StampOutStigma around mental health
Mumbai, 22 March, 2019: Mpower, a pioneer in Indian mental healthcare from The Aditya Birla Education Trust, today returned with its fourth edition of Aditya Birla Health Insurance Ride to Mpower, a cycle ride to create awareness and stamp out the stigma associated with mental health illnesses. In this edition, Mpower aims to bring the #StampOutStigma in our society today by bringing together Mumbaikars and encourage them to increase conversations around mental health.
The cycle ride saw more than 1700 cyclists and fitness champions lend their support towards this critical cause as they cycled through the streets of Mumbai. These Mumbaikars pledged to become champions of mental health. Aditya Birla Health Insurance Ride to Mpower marks Mpower's most successful awareness initiatives. Over the last four editions, it strived to educate individuals on the correlation between physical and mental health toward an individual’s overall well-being.
Flagged off by Mrs. Neerja Birla, Founder & Chairperson, Mpower and Mr. Ashish Sanghi, Trustee, Aditya Birla Education Trust, the 27km ride began from Dome@NSCI Worli to Asian Heart Institute, 15km ride began from Dome@NSCI Worlito Shivaji Park and 7km rides began from Dome@NSCI Worli to JK Kapur Chowk. The Movement saw avid participation of people from all walks of life including social and mental health activists, business leaders, inspirational youth icons and school children.
One in six people in India suffer from a serious mental disorder, and yet mental health remains a taboo in most Indian households, schools, colleges and offices. This taboo is what prevents real progress on the mental health front, primarily by attaching stigma to any and all mental health related concerns. The uncaring attitude, the ignorant labels, the tone-deaf conversations, the endless stigma and the lack of mental healthcare need to change. Shubhaavi Choksey: I don’t relate to my character in Kasauti at all
Actor Shubhaavi Choksey talks about being a part of Kasauti Zindagi Kay 2, her journey in the industry and how it’s changed over the years.
You have a very unique name, what is the meaning and what is story behind your name?
The meaning of my name is “auspicious girl” and the story behind it is quite interesting. When my mother was pregnant with me, my father’s business started flourishing. Later when I was born, the minute he picked me up somehow 'Shubh' came out of his mouth. So he actually made up this name.
Which was your last TV show?
My last show was Bade Ache Lagte Hai
After how long you have made a comeback on TV?
It’s been 7-8 years now.
What was the reason for such a long break?
My child…I wanted to give time to my child till he could take care of himself. I have been pampered by my grandmother and my mother, so I wanted to give the same thing back to my child.
How has marriage has changed your life? Tell something about your husband?
My husband is a complete opposite and I am extremely happy about that. He is very calm, composed and not so loud- like me!! One of the biggest similarity is that we both are grounded. I’ve always been like a bird. Love to fly high and I don’t like anybody who puts me in a cage. Luckily, whether it was my dad, the first man in my life or whether it is my husband, the second man in my life, both of them encourage me to fly and continue doing so.
What prompted you to make a come back with Kasauti?
Shashank Khaitan, the director of Dhadak, called me and asked me whether I would like to do a small role in Dhadak. I said yes I instantly for 2 reasons... one because Shashank is a friend and secondly, it was a Dharma Production and there was so much buzz around that movie. It was just a couple of days shoot, so I knew I would be able to manage it. The very next morning after the Dhadak screened , I got a call and they said that they are from Balaji and that there is a role in Kasauti Zindagi Kay 2. I just asked if it’s a negative role or not. They said it is not and I took it up.
How much you relate to your character Mohini Basu in Kasauti?
Not at all. The number one reason for that is that I hate anybody who looks down upon people. Secondly, I don't think you should make friends or associate with people, according to their money or the status that they have. The third thing is that she dotes more than required on her son and I don't pamper mine so much. For me, the most important person in my life is myself, then my mom, then my brother, then my husband and then my child and then friends. Mohini is completely madly in love with Anurag. She can't think beyond him. I am not like that. The biggest difference of Mohini Basu and Shubhaavi is that in real life I wear shorts, T-shirt and watches but I never wear jewellery. I only wear a wedding ring which my husband has gifted me.
What is so special about your look in the show? Do u enjoy having a Bengali look?
I think more than having a Bengali look, I enjoy the fact that there is a creative team who put this look together with so much poise and grandeur. Else , I would look very young without all of that. They really wanted me to look older, like a mother, so they planned it that way.
How is it working with Parth Samthaan any interesting incident to share?
Parth is the kind of guy who doesn't talk much but when he gets comfortable and starts talking, he's a lot of fun. Basically, on the sets itself, Erica, Sahil, Pooja Uday sir and I get along very well. With Parth, it took a little time. But when he opens up, he is a lot of fun . If I talk about working with Parth professionally, I would say that what he has elivated immensely as an actor from the first day to now. Kudos to that.
How is it working with Erica Fernandes any interesting incident to share?
Erica and I get along like a house on fire. She is very warm and caring. Sometimes, even while performing the scenes, I feel like why I am being mean to her because she is always taking care of me. Working with her is amazing. She is a friend and I love that.
How is it working with Hina Khan?
It’s amazing to see someone who has done so much work , who has been there and done that time and again continuously for nearly a decade still has that zest to work. When Hina comes on the set, it is amazing to see how well she knows her lines. I love professional people and she is very professional. Hina is amazing, once they say cut, she is Hina and not Komolika.
How do u feel on working with Ekta Kapoor again ?
I think she is my lucky mascot. I started my career with Balaji unknowingly. I had gone for a cameo back then when I was 23. I just went to try acting on TV, otherwise, I always wanted to do my theatre in France and all of that. So, I said to myself that let’s just try this and check how it functions. Then they said that my character would become negative for which my reaction was like how can I become negative! But I must say that Ekta has a vision. She knows what you can pull off. So working with Balaji has been lucky for me.
The industry has changed from Kyuki.. days what changes you find from then to now?
I have been very fortunate as far as actors are concerned. That time also there were people who's wavelength matched mine, whether it was Smiriti Irani, Ronit Da, Shilpa Sakhlani Rakshanda Khan . All of us were so respectful to each other and the same thing was also there during Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki with Sakshi, Kiran, they all had that. After that, when I came in Bade Ache Lagte Hai, I loved Ram. The only change that I could see from Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi to now is that the language we used to speak has changed. It’s more natural and more interesting.
Holi food nostalgia
Besides bright colours, Holi also means yummy food! TV actors tell us the traditional food they love to eat on Holi.
Jasmin Bhasin :
For me, Holi celebration is incomplete without Gujiya. I remember my mom used to make Gujiya at home for me on Holi. That is the traditional food that we have on the festival and I love and miss those Gujiyas. Nothing can match the taste of my mother’s cooked Gujiyas.
Tinaa Dattaa:
My mom makes Ras Malai for us every year on Holi and I love it. Without eating her Ras Malai, my holi is incomplete. I myself have tried to make it many times but the taste of Ras Malai made by my mom is unbeatable. I can never match up.
Adaa Khan :
My neighbour was a Bengali and she used to make these yummy Ras Malais every year on Holi. I remember on every Holi, she used to get Ras Malai for us and it used to taste delicious. I do eat Ras malai at times but the Ras Malai which she used to make had a different taste. I used to love it, I miss eating it.
Arjun Bijlani :
As a kid, I remember playing Holi with all my neighbours and on the occasion of Holi, my dad used to make this yummy chana masala for all of us. So, while playing I used to come in between, munch it and go back to play.
Ssharad Malhotra
As I am a Punjabi and for me, Holi without lassi is incomplete. Every year, we have lassi made at my place. From childhood, till now, I have never missed having lassi on Holi. So, I am sure I will have lassi this year as well.
Shashank Vyas :
Kachori is something which my mom makes on Holi. I love eating Kachori with Achaar (Pickle). My mom makes yummy Kachori's every year on Holi. So if I am not shooting and I am in my hometown on the occasion of Holi, I definitely have Kachori and achaar made by my mom.
TV actors urge fans to play dry Holi, save water
Holi is here with all its colours and yummy food. TV actors request fans to play a safe Holi with dry colours and not to waste water.
Rehaan Roy: My Holi plans for this year are very simple. I will be focusing more on spending time with family rather than playing Holi. The water crisis is a really big issue and we, as responsible citizens of Mumbai, should realise our duty towards this. My personal opinion would always that enjoy the festival but don’t make problems for others. Play with dry colours and try keeping them organic. Save water as much as possible, because summers are coming and we all know how the water condition is in Mumbai during summers.
Prakriti Nautiyal: My plan for Holi this year is to celebrate with my best friends and, of course, my new favourite co-actress and a dear friend Ridhima Tiwari. We will be probably going to a festival and then a house party. I definitely know there’s a huge water crisis in Mumbai and people should play with dry colours. It’s important to save water and the most important thing people should avoid is colouring animals.
Rushad Rana: With the water crisis rising high in Mumbai, everyone needs to be aware of their environment and needs to contribute towards it. I urge people to play dry Holi and not waste water.
Rohitashv Gour: I am definitely not playing Holi with water. It's not fun also. I would love playing dry Holi with organic colours and I support playing dry Holi.
Sumit Kaul: Holi is a festival of colours and that's what it should be. One should play it with organic colours and not with chemicals. I do believe that it's time to save and conserve water and therefore we need to be judicious. We should ensure that we play dry Holi and I hope more and more people do the same.

Actor Shweta Rohira is excited to celebrate Holi next week. For her, Holi is all about enjoying with colours and dancing on Holi numbers. “It’s a day when we enjoy colours and colouring everyone’s faces makes me immensely happy. The nautanki in me enjoys dancing on songs,” she says
Talking about her favourite memory of the festival, she says, “My favourite memory is preparing for Holi with balloons and water buckets all night with my papa. The entire extended family would come to our house to play Holi and we would play from morning to evening. So, I remember playing lots of Holi with my family, singing, dancing and eating yummy sweets.”
Talking about her plans for this year, Shweta says, “We will be celebrating with my family. Where water conservation is concerned, Holi can be celebrated in a recycled way. There is no harm in that. A lot of buildings are doing that Holi is a day of celebration and if you are happy, dry Holi is as much fun as a rain dance.”
