From Ramayana to Ramakien: India and Thailand Celebrate Shared Heritage, Spiritual Values, and People-to-People Bonds

Bangkok, Thailand:

A distinguished cultural and spiritual programme celebrating the shared civilisational heritage of India and Thailand was held in Bangkok, bringing together members of the Indian diaspora, community leaders, scholars, cultural representatives, and well-wishers from both nations.

The programme served as a significant platform to reaffirm the historic and enduring friendship between India and Thailand, a relationship nurtured over centuries through cultural exchanges, shared spiritual traditions, common values, and strong people-to-people connections.

The event was graced by the presence of His Excellency Shri Puneet Agrawal, Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Thailand, and Mrs. Agrawal, whose participation reflected the importance attached to community engagement, cultural diplomacy, and the deep historical and emotional bonds between the two countries.

In his address, Ambassador Agrawal emphasized that people-to-people interactions, the active participation of the Indian diaspora, and cultural exchanges remain among the strongest pillars of India–Thailand relations. He highlighted the vital role of youth, scholars, community organisations, and cultural institutions in preserving the shared heritage while promoting mutual understanding, friendship, and cooperation.

A key highlight of the programme was the celebration of the timeless connection between India's Ramayana and Thailand's Ramakien. The shared cultural legacy continues to unite the two nations beyond geographical boundaries, conveying universal values of righteousness, duty, ethical leadership, compassion, harmony, and respect. Speakers also underscored the profound influence of these epics on literature, performing arts, architecture, festivals, and social traditions in both countries.

The gathering also featured an inspiring spiritual discourse by HG Nityanand Charan Das, who explained the timeless relevance of the teachings of the Ramayana in contemporary life. He highlighted how spiritual awareness, self-discipline, compassion, gratitude, and value-based living contribute to inner peace, emotional resilience, mental well-being, and holistic development.

The programme was jointly organised through the efforts of Mr. Avneesh Kabra, Mr. Ghanshyam Biyani, and Mr. Rahul Laxman Patil. As a researcher and youth engagement promoter, Mr. Rahul Laxman Patil has been actively working to strengthen India–Thailand cultural and civilisational relations by promoting Track-II dialogue, youth engagement, cultural diplomacy, and community-based initiatives that deepen people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The event further highlighted the growing importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations. Through active engagement with the Indian diaspora and the local community, India and Thailand continue to reinforce a partnership founded on mutual trust, respect, shared heritage, and enduring friendship.

The programme also aligned with India's Act East Policy, demonstrating how civilisational ties and people-centric engagement continue to strengthen cooperation in the cultural, educational, economic, strategic, and diplomatic spheres.

The programme concluded with a collective commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural traditions that connect India and Thailand. Participants also called upon future generations to actively contribute to cultural exchanges and deepen the enduring friendship between the peoples of both nations.

India and Thailand are connected not only by history, but also by shared values, cultural memory, and a common civilisational journey.
