New Delhi: Rakesh Trivedi, one of India’s youngest News Editors and a distinguished multilingual television journalist, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘40 Under 40 Award’ by Samachar4Media, recognising his outstanding contribution to Indian journalism.
The award was presented by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak at a ceremony attended by some of the country’s most celebrated editors, broadcasters and media leaders. Widely regarded as one of India’s most prestigious honours for young media professionals, the annual award recognises excellence, impact and leadership in journalism before the age of 40.
With a career spanning over two decades, Trivedi has earned a reputation for fearless investigative reporting and multilingual journalism, reporting extensively in Hindi, Marathi and English on issues of public interest, governance and accountability.
One of his most widely discussed reports involved members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), a political party that strongly advocates the use and promotion of the Marathi language. During an on-camera interaction, Trivedi asked party workers basic questions in Marathi to assess their own proficiency in the language. Several workers were unable to respond and chose to walk away from the interview. The video quickly went viral across social media, triggering a nationwide debate and drawing widespread attention for exposing the apparent contradiction between the party’s public advocacy of Marathi and the language proficiency demonstrated by some of its own workers. The report was widely appreciated for raising questions about consistency between political messaging and practice.
Trivedi is also known for exposing the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal, an investigation that brought him national recognition. He is the author of the bestselling crime novel “Criminals in Uniform,” inspired by the high-profile explosives-laden vehicle case found outside the residence of one of India’s leading industrialists. The book received critical acclaim and earned him the prestigious Hindi Sahitya Akademi Award. Earlier this year, he was also conferred with the Devarshi Narad Patrakar Samman, further recognising his contribution to investigative journalism.
This year’s 40 Under 40 awardees included distinguished journalists from Delhi, Mumbai, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, reflecting the diversity and excellence of India’s media fraternity.
The significance of the event was underscored by the presence of some of the country’s most respected media personalities, including Sudhir Chaudhary, Navika Kumar, Zakka Jacob, Ranjit Kumar, Sumit Awasthi, Palki Sharma, Gaurav Sawant, Saeed Ansari, Rahul Sinha, Rohit Vishwakarma, Padmaja Joshi, former Network18 CEO Avinash Kaul, and senior journalists Bhupendra Chaubey and Sanket Upadhyay, among several other editors and media leaders.
The honour marks another milestone in Trivedi’s journalistic career, recognising his commitment to fearless reporting, impactful investigations and multilingual journalism that continues to shape India’s evolving media landscape.
